A Wise Insight From An Unexpected Source

A ball is randomly thrown in the path of a dog and you. What is the typical response of each? How will the dog respond? Most likely, it will “doggedly” pursue it. How will you respond? You will not likely chase the offending object because it is not in your nature to do so. Most likely you will pursue the cause of the object's presence.

This is due to the fact that you are much more aware than the dog. It could also be due to the fact that you (and likely other more aware creatures) have a must more distinct sense of the flow of time. What do I mean by this? Well, if a dog has little or no concept of the passage of time, might this explain why it does not investigate causality? Being, something happened only because something else must have happened previously.

It could be supposed that the dog will not look for a cause because it is only ever in the Present moment. I capitalized Present because I believe the Present moment is sacred. Why? Because there is much wisdom in embracing only the Present moment. Why? Because there only ever is the Present moment.

To a dog then, perhaps there is little or no sense of past and future. Therefore, what could causality ever mean to a dog? Hence the reason it finds little or no interest in the cause of an event. You can learn a lot from a dog.

My Cynical View On Today's Society

Dilbert Comic:

Catbert: We'll start ten mutual funds, each with randomly chosen stocks.

Later we'll build our advertisements around whichever one does the best purely by chance.

My goal is to be the premier provider of imaginary expertise.

Naïveté in society is very well portrayed in this caption. It exposes the fact that most people have little or no concept of how to properly account for causality. In this case, many are led to believe the success of the fund has much to do with the manager's financial ingenuity. But is it genuine skill and know-how or merely luck and serendipity? Much how many of us might assume a fit person to be an expert on fitness, perhaps we might just as well assume a monkey that "chose" the best performing stock of the year to be a genius?

Analogize with other things of your choosing.....

Our Insatiable Appetite For Destruction!

How do we get rid of war? Well, naturally those who identify with their righteous cause for war will fight against those who identify with their righteous cause for war. If those who view war as completely insane were to vacate the earth and inhabit a near-by planet for 10 or 20 years, perhaps they could come back to find the earth devoid of human beings as a result of self-destruction.

Voila! No more war! Of course this is highly idealistic as these “survivors” would in all likelihood find something else to kill each other over. At this point, perhaps the survivors would be put out of their misery if the toilet were flushed once again. Below are a couple of my writings on war:
